Chapter 1: Historical Underpinnings & Making of the Constitution
Constitutional Evolution from Regulating Act 1773 to Indian Independence Act 1947
The Constitution of India did not emerge in a vacuum; it represents a synthesis of British constitutional experiments, indigenous nationalist aspirations articulated during the freedom struggle, and comparative global constitutionalism.
🖍️ 1. Crown Rule & Responsible Government: The Government of India Act 1919 (Montagu-Chelmsford Reforms) introduced "Dyarchy" in the provinces, dividing provincial subjects into Transferred and Reserved categories. It also introduced bicameralism and direct elections in the country for the first time.
2. Government of India Act 1935: Serving as the structural blueprint for the 1950 Constitution, the 1935 Act proposed an All-India Federation, abolished provincial dyarchy in favor of Provincial Autonomy, and established the three-fold division of legislative powers (Federal, Provincial, and Concurrent Lists) along with a Federal Court established in 1937.
3. Constituent Assembly Composition: Constituted in November 1946 under the Cabinet Mission Plan, the Assembly held 11 sessions over 2 years, 11 months, and 18 days. Dr. Rajendra Prasad presided as President, while Dr. B.R. Ambedkar chaired the seven-member Drafting Committee appointed on August 29, 1947.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about privacy, file formats, annotations, and subscriptions.
Is PrepVault free to use?+
Start with 100 MB and up to 5 PDFs. Paid plans add storage and longer access periods. Each PDF can be up to 20 MB.
Can I upload my own PDFs?+
Yes. After signing in, open My PDF library and upload a PDF. Other document formats are not supported in this release.
Are my documents private?+
Students can access only their own PDFs and notes. The website admin panel shows storage totals, not private content. The Supabase project owner retains technical infrastructure access; this is not end-to-end encryption.
Can I annotate PDFs?+
Yes. Use pen and highlighter drawings, bookmarks and page-linked notes. Annotations are stored separately from the original PDF.
Will my notes be saved?+
Notes save to your account when you press Save. Drawing strokes save when completed. An error message tells you if a save fails.
Can I access my account on multiple devices?+
Yes. Sign in to the same account on another device. If two tabs edit the workspace at once, refresh when a save conflict is reported.
How does Lifetime access work?+
It is a one-time payment for the lifetime of the platform, subject to the published terms. See the current plan limits at checkout.
How do renewals and refunds work?+
Payments are one-time with no automatic renewal. Renew the same timed plan to extend validity. Contact support for plan changes or refunds; the published refund policy applies.
Which file formats are supported?+
PDF only, up to 20 MB per file. Your plan also limits total storage and number of PDFs.
